The Rented Christmas

Ballyhoo Theatre in collaboration with Act One Dance
December 1999

By Norman C. Ahern, Jr. and Yvonne Ahern

John Dale hasn’t enjoyed a ’real Christmas’ for years.  So, on the spur of the moment, he decides to ’rent’ a Christmas from Anne Weston, who owns the local rent shop.  Anne is at first flustered with the requirements:  a tree with presents, Christmas carols and also a wife and five children.  Anne feels she has solved the problem of a Christmas family by calling the actors’ guild.  But the young actors come down with the measles so she turns to the local orphanage.  When the guild can’t locate a ’mother,’ Anne steps in to play the role herself.  Based on the short story by J.  Lillian Vandervere, the story of how John Dale’s rented Christmas turns into a new life for all concerned makes this a warm story for the holiday season.

A Little Princess

Ballyhoo Theatre in collaboration with Act One Dance

This engaging musical adaptation of the classic by Frances Hodgson Burnett opens with a happy Sara Crewe, heiress to a large fortune.  Enrolled at Miss Minchin’s seminary in Victorian England, her life takes a dramatic turn when she receives news of the loss of her father...  and her fortune.  Sara is forced by the greedy Minchin to become a servant and live in a wretched attic room.  When a mysterious gentleman from India moves next door, curious things begin to happen.

With the book adapted by Vera Morris, and music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur, A Little Princess is a wonderful and moving story for the whole family.

Gone With the Breeze

August 2000

Book by Tim Kelly
Music & Lyrics by Bill Francoeur

The whole country is talking non-stop about Lucy Belle Bankhead’s sensational new novel, “Gone With The Breeze.”  The heroine is spunky 18-year-old Jezebel O’Toole.  When the nation hears that Hollywood’s Lone Pine Films, the movie maker that emphasizes youth, is planning “Breeze” as its next picture, hundreds of aspiring young actresses descend on the studio. Great songs, zany characters and comedy ensue!
