Mission Statement

Ballyhoo Theatre's purpose is to enrich, educate and entertain our community by providing a superior theatre experience, to provide education in the theatre arts to children and young adults, and to create a safe and inclusive environment.

In meeting these goals, we strive to:

  • PROVIDE a program of educational experiences in all aspects of theatre.

  • INSPIRE recognition and support to encourage young theatre artists.

  • SUPPORT talented youth financially through scholarships and other means.

  • CREATE quality entertainment through theatrical productions.

  • FOSTER an open, safe and inclusive environment for young people to express who they are.

  • PROMOTE the values of respect, pride and unity.

Ballyhoo Theatre is a queer led organization. The majority of our board, our youth advisory board and our staff identify as part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. As part of our production season, we are committed to including diverse queer stories, stories with queer characters, as well as telling traditional stories through a queer lens. We are a space that celebrates and welcomes everyone; queer folks, their allies, and individuals who are searching for a community-based environment to grow and learn in.

At Ballyhoo Theatre our focus is education and inclusion. We celebrate people of every gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and ability. We strive, always, to address and maintain a space that works towards anti-racism and DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) and acknowledges when we fall short. We work to create a safe and inclusive space for young performers to be seen and joyously accepted, and to explore, learn and thrive.

About Us

Ballyhoo Theatre was founded in 1999. We have served hundreds of students over the years to meet the goals included in our mission statement. Many of our alumni work professionally in theatre, film, music performance, technical theatre and theatre education. We also have students currently enrolled in top music and theatre colleges around the country. Participants in our program have learned confidence, a sense of purpose, a strong work ethic, and have discovered how to truly express themselves and who they are. Theatre enriches us all.
